My big side project this summer was to help the Greater Seattle Choral Consortium create a proper database system for their members and their members’ events.
The primary goal of this was to streamline the process of generating the Seattle Sings website, which lists upcoming concerts for all member organizations.
Of course, being far more ambitious than that, I pointed out that with the proper setup, we could do a whole lot more….

This composition started out as another Music Theory composition project, this time focused on writing a song in the 32-bar American Song Form (AABA).

The origin of this one came from a conversation I had with my wife about how there were tons of songs about Mary but almost nothing about Joseph. We came up with a couple: Joseph Dearest, Joseph Mine obviously, and The Cherry Tree Carol. But not really much else.
Then she mentioned that she had written a poem a while back about Joseph, and I thought maybe I could work it into a composition.
After the previous post (and one complaint!) I decided to make a JavaScript version of the Messiah Time Calculator below.

I was discussing with a colleague how long the Christmas portion of the Messiah was compared to the whole thing. Feeling the need to justify my thought that it was certainly more than an hour, I built the attached handy-dandy Messiah time calculator spreadsheet.
