The Messenger: The Story of Joan of Arc
Vera and I finally got around to checking out The Messenger tonight, which she's been interested in seeing for the last few years. I have to admit being intrigued when I looked at the movie description on the NetFlix sleeve which begins: "Milla Jovovich is hot ... literally!" :-)
Having liked most of Luc Besson's other films, it was about what I expected. A bit over-the-top in some ways, some very cool cinematography, more Milla Jovovich than was really necessary (what's with her annoying breathy way of speaking?) We spent a while distracted, trying to figure out where we had seen Vincent Cassel before, and then recognized him as the foppish French duke from Elizabeth (incidentally a much stronger film overall).
In the end, I'd say the movie was flawed but enjoyable. 3/4 stars.
